Pysanky Introduction:

With Easter and Spring weather coming, here is an introduction to Ukrainian Easter Eggs traditionally designed using white eggs, bees wax and dyes. I’ve been making these eggs with my family from a young age and will be making them this week with my family at home.

How to design your Pysanka step by step:

  1. You can create your own design on the worksheet above (if you have a printer) or you can simply draw out an egg shape on a piece of paper and work from there. Use the BLANK egg on Page 1 to create your own design.
  2. Look at examples of Pysanky online by researching Ukrainian Easter Eggs. Here are some links I found informative and useful:

  1. Use a pencil lightly on your prepared worksheet (easier to erase). Create a design based on a traditional egg, or create your own patterns and colour scheme. Notice how most eggs have a symmetrical layout, with repetition of symbols and colours to create a pattern.

  1. Colour in your design using pencil crayons and markers or your chosen materials you have at home.
